Warming up we find the words that pass through as we connect to our moving physicality in space. Words and movements are deeply connected. In this workshop we will create new poetry spontaneously through our own movement and by witnessing the movements of others. This workshop needs no previous experience in movement or poetry.

15.00–15.30 DANCE FILMS

PLANET SKIN  (Cinzia Schincariol, IT/AU)

This short film was released in Bali in December 2015, as a response to the ‘No borders’ project, a dance event inviting 26 international artists from all over the world, with and without disability to explore movement, dance, music and the moving image as opportunities to overcome barriers between cultures and people.

IN BED WITH ZULEIKA, MANIFESTO FRAGILE  (Estela Lapponi, BR)

Estella Lapponi is a performer, producer and Brazilian video artist. Since 2009 Estela has created many diverse works exploring different art fields with Zuleika Brit under the title ‘Intruder Body’.

IN TOUCH WITH YOURSELF  (Nadja Pärssinen, FI)

During the in touch with yourself -video process I have been exploring Nadya Khrenkova’s  “Simple Poems” and the interaction between the words of the poems and my own improvisational movement language. The documentation dance scenes were shot in Kumpula (Helsinki) and in a small town called Outokumpu,  North-Karelia, Summer 2016.

16.00–18.00 WORKSHOP: BODY IS VOICE: HEINI NUKARI

Body is Voice is about discovering ways to bring movement, breath and voice together. The body as our instrument has a huge moving and sounding potential which keeps on unraveling throughout our lifetime.This work offers tools and pathways to tap into our resources and to explore the variety of sounds, movement and stillness as we travel through the different spaces inside the body. The idea is to develop ourselves towards a creative state where the movement and voice are equally present ways of expression.

Heini Nukari is a dance-voice artist, performer and body-oriented voice teacher. She has a long experience as a performer and explorer of movement and voice improvisation.

LAYERS – PIA LINDY AND HEINI NUKARI

Layers is a many-layered investigation on movement, sound and improvisation. How timelessness, history and society filter through different layers of our lives and all movement? Lindy and Nukari have a wide experience in working with improvisation in performance and started the Layers-collaboration in January 2015.

Pia Lindy is a dancer and a choreographer whose works combine humour and gravity, innovative dance action and critical social thinking. Her focus has been strongly on improvisation and working in different environments & contexts.

Heini Nukari is a dancer who finds sound and movement equally powerful modes of expression. She has explored their relationship through improvisation, music, field recordings and the Body is Voice work.

DANCE OF THE UNIVERSE  - Dancehearts/Annantalo & Class Beat Resonaari

XDF 2016 DanceHearts

The wind is the power, / the water runs forward / The fire moves / singing / The birds / gliding fly / With us stays / fortunately / the power / onward

Class Beat and Dancehearts present fragments from Dance of the Universe. The work includes dance, music and sounds produced by electronic instruments (T/Act). It is based on imaginary experiences of  flying, dance solos, inspiration words and environmental sounds. The work  was built in workshops during the autumn and spring.

CLASS BEAT rehearses in Resonaari special music school. The young members have been practicing music for several years. They have experience on stage in Savoy Theatre, Finlandia House and many other concerts by Resonaari. Dance theatre has been a new and inspirational challenge.

DANCEHEARTS is an art education group in Annantalo Art Center. It works collectively developing the ideas and movements of the group members. Essential working method is improvisation.  The specific in this work has been how the line between dancers and musicians vanishes. Also using T/Act is a new  inspiring perspective on movement.

SHADOWLANDS – Kaaos Company

XDF 2017 Shadowlands Kaaos Company

Shadowlands was first performed in The Nordic House, Reykjavík, Iceland in 2014. A collaboration between Kaaos Company and Finnish / Icelandic visual artists. The duet focuses on listening and finding connection to small movements and details in the space between and around the bodies in a shadowed world.

KNOW BODY (work in progress) – Kaaos Company

Is a work in progress of dance improvisation playing with the interaction between 4 dancers. Each dancer’s movement language communicates images and expression. These elements are played with personally and collectively into a collage of worlds that move through space.

XDF 2017  Listen to my heartbeat

This is an excerpt form the whole dance performance Live Photo Albums which premiered  on 9 April 2017 at the dance event ApinaFest!2017 in the Culture Centre STOA Helsinki.

Workshop activities have been based on Isto Turpeinen’s work.  Listen to my heartbeat is the impromptu of Tom Leidenius and Iivo Hämäläinen. Strong themes are the meeting places, togetherness, touch and relationships. The work consists of given, applied and self-contained dance. The working style gives room for improvisation in present moment.

SIGHT SEEING 

Sight Seeing by choreographer Liisa Pentti and composer Paul Pignon, is a performance combining dance, speech, music and interactive media. An online camera attached to the dancer projects real-time image on the screen bringing the dialogue between movement and stillness as part of the work. Every performance of Sight Seeing is different; the work always varies according to the space and the audience. The improvisatory performance explores gaze and perception. The gaze of the performer, seen through the video projection, meets the gaze of the audience. The live interaction between the performer,

Liisa Pentti is one of the key visionaries of the Finnish dance scene. She has worked intensively in the Finnish dance scene as a dancer, choreographer and teacher since 1987. Liisa Pentti graduated (BA) from Opleiding Moderne Dans of Theaterschool in Amsterdam (School for New Dance Development, SNDO) in 1986 and she received her MA in Dance from the Theatre Academy Helsinki in 2010. The dance group Liisa Pentti +Co was founded in the year 2000. It has produced tens of productions and has performed in the Nordic countries, Estonia, Lithuania, Russia, Germany, the Netherlands, Hungary and Austria.

Paul Pignon is an internationally renowned composer of electronic and instrumental works, real-time composer/performer on various winds, voice, computer. Exploration in music/sound art for over 50 years. Chairman of SEAMS. Board-member of Fylkingen, initiator of The Pignon Agenda.
